LOTS Update Mon Oct 15th

You can spend your time, waste your time, or invest your time. It's your choice.

The most recent Ladies Only Track Session (LOTS) was held on Saturday October 13th at the LA Velodrome. It was really exciting to have more than a dozen Ladies from the LA Tri Club join us! All the Ladies had a fantastic time and everyone left smiling promising to return with a friend!! Thanks for coming Ladies!

Fun Stuff ~

Tis the Season...For playing “Musical Teams”. My friend Tara calls this “silly season”. It’s the time of year when everyone examines this year’s accomplishments and next year’s goals to see what changes, if any, need to be made. Often times the biggest decision we face as bike racers is what team are we going to sign with now for next year. Our decisions to change teams (or not) can involve issues as simple as cost or whether or not we like our team’s clothing or they can be as complex as team discounts on bicycle related products, sufficient (if any) coaching or reimbursement of race fees.

Either way, choosing to stay with our current teams or choosing to change teams is almost never an easy decision. All too often we change teams to escape differences we can’t live with only to find a short time down the road that we have signed on to a whole new set of problems. It will be exciting to see who’s wearing which team’s clothing next year!

Tis the Season….For a So Cal style “Off Season”….we are barely past the end of another H-O-T summer and just around the corner its already looking like ‘Hallowed Thank Christ Years’ all at the same time. Have you been to Costco or Ikea lately? Costco has had their costumes, pumpkin pies, door wreaths, Santas & confetti on sale since before Labor Day and Ikea already has a parking lot tent set up just for their Christmas bric-a-brac! In between all the craziness of the Holidays us “bike racers” are trying to have an off season. Many of you are still trying to squeeze in just enough time on the bike to continue calling yourself a ‘bike racer’ while really enjoying not racing every single weekend at dawn-thirty! Or maybe you’ve traded your racing bike cleats in for a pair of marathon running shoes? Or maybe you’ve already burned out your first Nite Sun head lamp of the season and have decided to come indoors to the well lit, warm, dry, cozy LA Velodrome for some off season track cycling to fine tune your pedaling, spinning and sprinting techniques?

Whatever you are doing for off-season cross training just make sure you are enjoying it. The bike racing season starts fast and furious again soon…much sooner here than anywhere else in the US.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The LA Velodrome has a full line up of training sessions each week, year round.
Sundays 12-3pm & Monday, Wednesday & Fridays from 6-9PM ~ Is open training. These open sessions are designed for athletes of varying ability who have enough track skill to be able to safely navigate in and around plenty of track traffic. Athletes should plan their own workouts either with or without a coach.
Tuesday & Thursdays from 7-9PM ~ Roger’s Sessions. These organized training sessions are designed by Roger for athletes of all abilities. Those who are new to track cycling are encouraged to train with Roger in the pole lane in a single file pace line format while those athletes with sufficient skill and strength are encouraged to train with the advanced athletes up on the blue line or at the balustrade. Roger designs the workout to involve a “follow the leader style” group warm-up followed 3-4 interval sessions lasting up to 15 min each. Each Roger’s session ends with a 40 lap (or more) Motorpaced workout called the “motorgame”.
Everyone must be certified by Roger before participating in any training sessions or races at the LA Velodrome. No Exceptions!
Please See the website For a full calendar of events & certification classes at the LA Velodrome.
Saturday October 20th ~ Training Races 3:00-6:00PM For everyone who has been missing this exciting addition to your training program….IT’S BACK!!!! For all of you highly accomplished road racing worriers who are nervous about racing on the track…these training races are FOR YOU!!
A group of enthusiastic folks have gotten together and resurrected the Saturday Afternoon Training Races at ADT. With a new look, a new crew and an entirely new format we are excited to invite all the Ladies to join us.
All of you Ladies need to know that there were only 2 Ladies at the first Training Race session on Saturday October 13th! Where were you all? I can list the names of at least 2 dozen Ladies who are reading this email that SHOULD’A BEEN THERE!! All of you that have discussed track racing with me over the past year have indicated repeatedly that you really want to learn to race the track before you actually race the track. Well, this is the best opportunity that I can give you for doing just that! Please come out and join me! I am not a very scarey opponent and I’d love to help you learn all the In's & Out's of each track racing discipline!
After several discussions of the organizers we have made a couple of changes to the fee schedule and the session format.
As for the fees, we understand that many will not be able to make it to all of the dates and we certainly do not want to exclude anyone. Therefore we will be charging $10 + ADT track fees per week to cover our costs and if you plan to be at most, if not all, of the races we will charge $60 + weekly track fees for the whole 9 race series. As mentioned previously juniors pay only the track fee. The fees for the series can be paid in cash or by check to Momentum Cycling. The Track fees are separate and can be handled also by cash or check to ADT Home Depot Center.
You will need to bring your current racing license along with your own track bike, helmet, shoes, pedals and any additional equipment that you may need. Rental bikes will be available for Juniors only (at no charge).
All participants must be certified by the velodrome director, Roger Young prior to the first session. If you are a female & have attended one or more LOTS then you are considered to be certified. If you are not female then check the LA Velodrome website for a schedule of upcoming Certification Classes.
Class size is limited. Please send me an email if you’d like to attend.julia@crossins.com .
