LOTS of Ladies On Track

You can spend your time, waste your time, or invest your time. It's your choice.

Attn: Ladies!! ~ The LOTS Program is pleased to announce the following new program developments!

First ~ The Primary goal of the LOTS program is to introduce and educate as many women as possible in the exciting sport of track cycling. One of the ways we are doing this is by extending the program to other tracks in So Cal and beyond. To that end, LOTS is adding the Encino Velodrome to its lineup of host tracks. Monthly LOTS sessions will continue to be scheduled at the LA Velodrome on the 2nd Saturday of each month as often as possible and we will be adding the Encino Velodrome on the 3rd Saturday of each month as often as their schedule will allow.

Through the upcoming winter LOTS has reserved the following dates and times at the Encino Velodrome:

Sat Nov 15th 3-4PM ~ Yes, this weekend!
Sat Jan 17th 3-4PM
Sat Feb 7th 3-4PM

Please Note: Encino’s dismissal times are open ended and can be flexible depending on available daylight, however the start times are firm! Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early so we can start early or on time!

Second ~ In conjunction with USAC’s revamped international track program, the 2009 USAC Elite Track National schedule has been expanded to include an Exhibition Women’s Madison Event!

For all of this century and most of the previous century the high speed, action packed, hand-slinging track race known as The Madison has been dominated by the men. That is now changing thanks to events like The Amsterdam 6 Day and USAC’s 2009 Elite Track Nationals which now both include women’s Madison events!!

To help prepare as many women as possible for this event, LOTS is excited to be hosting a winter series of 6 Madison Training Sessions at the Encino Velodrome!

Thanks to the USAC and a number of our local Madison experts and the Encino Velodrome, we are excited to facilitate the introduction and education of women to this exciting event.

Who: The LOTS Madison Training Sessions are open to all Track Women of all ages including Juniors, Elites, Masters ~ everyone is welcomed! For everyone to truly benefit, we also need an equal showing of both new & experienced male & female Madison riders to facilitate the mentoring and education of all attendees. USAC Coaches & Experienced Madison Riders are also encouraged to attend and coach/mentor any one or all 6 sessions! Guys, Gals & Coaches ~ Please RSVP to me so I know who & how many to expect.

Important Info: Due to the skill, technical, and awareness requirements of the Madison ALL of the following requirements must be met in order to participate:

1) Riders Must possess a valid 2008/2009 annual USAC Race License.
2) Riders Must be a Track Category 3 or higher.
3) Bring ALL of your own equipment including 2 matching Jerseys.
4) Plan to attend all 6 Training sessions. This is not a drop in program.
5) Bring a Friend or Teammate. This is a “team” event.

If you plan to participate but can not meet one or more of the 5 requirements, please let me know!!

When: All 6 sessions will be on Saturday afternoons from 1:00-3:00PM.

The SCNCA wants to invite anyone interested to attend any ONE of the following Officials Seminars. These seminars are geared toward both new and returning Officials.

Category C Officials’ Seminars:
Date: November 15, 2008, Diamond Bar, CA
Date: November 29, 2008, Ontario, CA
Date: December 6, 2008, Costa Mesa, CA

At the entry level, you will be tested on Road, MTB, and Track. They will not be covering Track or MTB material. They realize that some of you will specifically want to work track so they will be offering a Track ONLY session in 2009 (no testing) that will be held in conjunction with a track event.

The exam is open book. This means you need to go online at USA Cycling and download the following Rulebooks to use during the class if you do not already have them. They suggest you spend some time with the rule book so that you are familiar with where to find rules.

Download the following:
USA Cycling Rule Book
Road, Track & Cyclocross Rule Book
MTB Rule Book
Collegiate Rule Book
They would also recommend that you download the following manuals:
Officials Manual – Part 1 through Part 3
Race Official’s Administrative Handbook
Norba Official’s Guidebook
And, if you are interested:
Motoref manual

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Marilyn Allen ucicomm@peoplepc.com They do have a room limit, so please confirm your attendance.

** Nominations are (still) being accepted for SCNCA trustee positions. We (the SCNCA board) are now accepting nominations for candidates for three trustee positions. These are two year terms that will begin on January 1, 2009 and run through December 31, 2010. The elections will be held on December 1st, 2008. Please forward any nominations to redbike@earthlink.net. Nominations will close on November 15th and ballots will go out to all current USAC clubs on November 16th.

*** New Steering Committee ~ Ladies, the SCNCA Board of Directors is looking to form a steering committee that is ‘of the women, by the women and for the women’. If you have a vision and a passion for Women on Bikes then please consider joining us. We are looking for ways to increase the number of women on bikes on the track, on the road and on the dirt. We want to educate and equip women who ride bikes either recreationally but may want to race as well as those women who already race but need/want more skill development. It takes a village and that’s what we are looking to build! If you are interested in being a part of this committee in 2009, please email me so we can notify you of the happenings as they happen!

Ladies On Track Tshirts ~ Just in time for the holidays! At the request of many of you in recent months, we are finalizing the details of a really nifty LOTS Tshirt to help celebrate the 2 year Anniversary of the LOTS Program. This fundraiser will also bring some much needed finances into the program allowing us to grow LOTS into 2009. The Tshirts will be slightly fitted and nicely feminine in a high quality fabric. Sizes will range from XS-XLg. If you go to my blog you will see the new LOTS Logo on the right hand side. This logo will be displayed on the center front of the shrits (approx 4in diam). The Tshirts will be a really pretty “buttercup” yellow.
Order yours now for just $20 including postage! Send me an email and I’ll process your order!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday Nights 6-9PM ~ Ladies, you are invited to join us on each Friday evening for Open Training at the LA Velodrome. Friday nights at ADT are lightly attended and we provide a lightly structured workout designed to improve your track skills. If you are looking to gain confidence, develop specific track (training & racing) skills and improve your overall fitness without the intimidation of a more crowded session, then consider joining us on Friday nights at 6PM.
Have you seen USA Cycling's Web article featuring the LOTS program? If you, your employer or anyone you know, is interested in sponsoring the LOTS program, please contact me. LOTS Survey ~ Thank you to everyone who has responded to the survey!! LOTS of helpful info has been collected and will be used to help us plan the future direction of the Program. If you have not yet responded, please do so soon. It only takes a minute to complete the short easy survey.
